PROJECT
ORANGE HOUSE
LOCATION
ORANGE/NSW
COMPLETION
2015

This project exemplifies the dichotomy of an empty nester apartment brief within a ‘rural shed’ aesthetic, set on a landscaped suburban block. Of course the kids could arrive back home at a moment’s notice – just slide closed the door between bath and ensuite and the grand kids can take over!

The house was conceived as a simple metal tube, with a warm interior and furnished with timber ‘cubes’ within its hollows. As the program grew, the strength of the concept absorbed appendages to maintain a clarity of form uncommon in its context, yet not overbearing in the street. Architecture meets social transition in the heartland of the Australian dream.
