21st century terraces houses for thornton penrith
medium density residential estate for 21st Century Terrace housing in Thornton Penrith
Landcom (now known as UrbanGrowth NSW) decided to reinvent the Terrace Home typology to 21st century living principles and standards, for adoption in the western Sydney Suburban market. Integrated Design Group was one of a small group of architects who collaborated toward this continuing reinvention of Australian housing within affordable, market responsive and sustainable principles.
Our understanding of each of these fundamental criteria led to development of a product which rated highly in focus group market testing and has subsequently proven very successful in delivery at Thornton, Penrith.
Building on our work for Landcom on the 21st Century Terraces project, integrated DESIGN group was engaged by Landcom to provide a feasibility analysis for two further sites in the Thornton community, Thornton block C3 and Thornton Hall. The C3 site had been identified through the master planning process for a potential seniors living development. integrated DESIGN group examined a range of development scenarios including independent living units, a resident aged care facility and combined RACF/ILUs.
The feasibility was provided for the purpose of obtaining developer interest in the tender for the site. The Thornton Hall heritage site, located on a hill within the Thornton precinct, required restoration and redevelopment in order to make a more meaningful contribution to the Thornton Community. integrated DESIGN group examined options that would augment the value of the heritage home as a community asset, framing and reinforcing its visibility from the centre of the Thornton development. Suggested redevelopment options included adaptive reuse: suites for an NGO; child care facilities; a clubhouse for a resident aged care facility; or independent living units.
