Marking this important corner site is a residential apartment development composed of individual `buildings’ or `elements’ that relate to the different streetscapes by reference to height, bulk and scale, colour, external fittings and materials of the surrounding buildings.
Utilising the design philosophy of a ‘community of buildings’ the proposal offers a more dense and diverse urban fabric whilst maintaining existing building lines and continuity in the streetscape. The buildings in their form and expression become more subtle participants in the streetscape offering passive surveillance from the upper levels while becoming the defining edges of the public space.
The proposal increases vegetation and landscape elements along the boundary which soften the edge – providing relief along the interface with the building at a pedestrian scale which provides the opportunity for lively commercial and community interaction.
