Prestons Lodge aged care Facility is another collaboration with Advantaged Care, providing 132 beds for the South-western Sydney community. The linear nature of the site provides excellent opportunity to access northern light, and develop a series of connected houses to avoid the potential of creating an elongated ‘institutional’ building. Civic and communal spaces break the building into sections providing transitional points in the building form. These expressions represent the arrival, gathering and meeting spaces for residents and are located between private residential wings. This configuration reduces both staff and resident movement and circulation offering greater connection to communal spaces, promoting social interaction and activity amongst residents.

Many of the ‘living’ spaces within Prestons Lodge extend from north to south through the building offering summer and winter living experiences, a high quality of light penetration and excellent air movement. These spaces offer residents a selection of sitting and meeting places.

Whilst the building is broken into segments the overall curved linear arrangement of the site planning provides the following benefits for the residents and neighbouring developments;

• a protective shell to the motorway sound wall, but with good visual openings at communal points
• it creates protected north facing external places
• it allows the external outdoor spaces to be north facing but well setback from the neighbours to the north
• no overshadowing impacts to any neighbours
• a residential presentation to the streetscape with a stately, tree-lined driveway into the formal entry courtyard which provides a clear civic way-finding form but not on the street.
